4 Days Till Period And Ewcm

A leadership fable about

In this post I share with you, dear readers, a story that came to my e-box mail referred to our role as leaders. I fully share his moral, so I leave it here for your consideration:

The Fable of the Pastor and Project Leader
by Rodrigo Corral on February 10, 2009.

Myth or Reality?

strolled one day a project leader on the field after years of being glued to the monitor.
I was thinking how extraordinary scenery, the peace that was felt and how far it was now meeting kick off "when he saw a shepherd with a small herd. No more than fifty resources were the pastor managed.
At that precise moment, the modest shepherd saw the leader and took a swig from his bottle of mezcal. The minister raised his head, looked at our project leader and offered a drink. The leader took the bottle, gave him a drink that tasted pretty strong and sat next to the pastor. And you know, a good mezcal can have hallucinogenic effects. Especially if you have not tried in years ... and not leaving the nearest supermarket.
So intoxicated by the taste, the project leader could not help saying, "Mr. Shepherd, what he really is life." The pastor looked at him without saying anything. "The whole day devoted to yourself, with your faithful resources never oppose their will, they know what to do without anyone to tell them, they are not calling all day and thinking it's time to go home. What would I be in his position ... "continued the chief.
The pastor looked at him and with the simplicity that gives only true wisdom said, "you do not know what he's talking, buddy." And he threw a long swig from the bottle. The project manager would not be intimidated, so I replied: "You will if you do not know anything about how hard it is my job, sure I take better care of his sheep, you my team of developers." The pastor looked at him and said "done, type address here of your company and I'll tell. "
He handed the bottle to the project leader, in a gesture that clearly said that if he drank, the deal was closed. And of course, the leader drank as I thought, "who the hell, here you have the certificates I am."
The shepherd whistled to his dog and said, "within a week back, while, due to the head. ... He gave
the mat and went to meet his new flock. The project leader thought, "Well this is managing resources is not it? I've been doing this for years. Sheep sure they do a better job than the developers. I have a clear goal, to give wool, and only I need to create a plan and demand its fulfillment. " With a good plan and an iron hand, certainly could meet its objectives.
leader breathed again when he remembered he was wearing his PDA and Project and Excel were super mini version. Everything was fixed. He spent that night with a plan. Everything was under control, he had "the plan", 50 sheep resource type, 50 kilos of wool per resource, 2.500 kilos of wool. Certainly a profitable project ...
The next day brought to the flock. "I have a plan that will lead us to complete the project successfully. I have already committed to the mayor and wool merchant to deliver 2500 kilos of the finest wool in the within two months. The mayor has shown me their full confidence in me in front, expert resource manager, the project will be a success. "Sheep do not understand anything. They knew that the mayor used to worry more for milk than wool, but maybe things have changed, who knew them, "mere wool-producing resources? Milk? ... Sheep, no wool had never produced so much in so little time, but with a good manager in charge may be the miracle works.
spent twenty days, and the project leader met again the sheep. "Dear sheep, we are late in my plan. No doubt they will do what is necessary to ensure production fast enough. I have spoken with the mayor and told him not to worry, that will increase our efforts cattle and lost time. " The sheep did not understand and concluded that the leader was not a very smart animal. At the end of the day did not know how to make wool grow faster ... and it looked like it either.
Another twenty days later, the project leader brought back to the fold. "Damn sheep. I asked an effort and have done nothing. I made the plan and you are doing to fail. If not applied, they will go to the * @ # & street. And you know, the crisis we have ... I can find fifty as you. " The sheep, once again, did not understand anything. And was told the project manager who did not get in the corral at night, and that change of field was not good for their wool. They had thought that maybe if they moved down the field, as they did with the pastor, improve wool production. They also suggested that the chief orders, knew that the mayor always wanted to milk ... "These sheep, always complaining of nonsense, I knew they were not very different from the developers. Follow the plan and stop complaining and think, for that I am. There is no way to make them work! "Had thought the project manager. Twenty
days later, the mayor came and asked the boss for their wool ... the head was only 1.000 kilos, the sheep were not as skilled as put on your resume, unacceptable ... I could have done it ... "No problem boss," the mayor, "we will have plenty of milk then." The head turned red and said "milk? if the contract said nothing of milk ... The mayor said, "No matter what you tell me the contract, the milk is taken for granted, the project will fail, you will not see a * @ # & weight ... ".
In that came the pastor ... I'm sure he too was wrong ... "What this pastor? "Hard work?" He said sarcastically. The pastor replied, with its natural simplicity: "Everything has gone smoothly. After the developers are like sheep, right? Surely you too have done well. Developers even have given me a GPS to mark where my sheep eat better ... and where there are mushrooms! I think I have grown fond of. "
The leader could not get over his astonishment. Resources were started and everything. Tell me you did! said the pastor.
"It was easy, the developers are much more communicative than sheep and costs less to reunite. Also, I thought, are not very different than sheep, are individualistic and gregarious at the same time. Sure if I care about them as I do with my sheep, I'll get the expected results and why I've dedicated this week. "
"I asked if they got a 64-bit server I do not know what evidence of performance and compatibility. I had no idea what that was, but it seemed important to them, so I got it. Do not look for the best grass for my sheep? Not so different ... "The project manager was stunned, since when does some of the resources by their whims? ...
" One day, the developers said that the performance could not be adequate, it was best to ask an expert said. So I did, I sought an expert to help them and they formed. Do not take my sheep to the vet when they have problems? ". Now that the project leader could not believe it, training resources is expensive! And then they go to the competition as you know.
"Another day I was told that the developers failed to move forward. That worried me. Is it supposed that developers must move forward in functionality, is its wool and milk, right? The problem is that sales were continually demanding minor changes, visits to clients, taking calls, it seems that the wolves lurk, I thought. So I put a some order and I made it clear that my herd is not disturbed. "
The minister concluded: "The truth is that I have not done much right?. Developers are like sheep, if you let them do their job and put the conditions for doing so in the end you can collect the results. "
In that awakened the project leader and thought, "Wow, how the pastor paste the mezcal, go nap and go weird dream," while the pastor looked lost on the horizon with his flock.
already said DeMarco and Lister in Peopleware: "the work of project manager is not to make people work, but to build the environment in which work is possible."

Changes in the PMP certification exam

In line with a new version of the document "Role delineation Study (RDS), PMI announced changes to the PMP certification exam from 31/08/2011.

Basically, announce 2 major issues:

a) .- The 30% of the questions on the basis of examinations will be changed.
b) .- disappears as an independent domain "Social and Professional Responsibility" and all questions relating to the Code of Ethics will be incorporated into the respective remaining 5 domains, changing the proportion of questions each.

not expected to change in the conditions of applicability.

current credential holders we will not be affected immediate and do not change the PDU's that have already earned. If there is any change, notify PMI expected before year end.

starting to read can learn here:

http://www.pmi.org/Certification/Project-Management-Professional-PMP/Updates-to-PMP-Certification-Exam.aspx

observation seems best practices, combined with the study of dummy questions have borne fruit. Anyway, PMI makes it clear that such changes occur in periods of 5 to 7 years and always alert to 11 months prior to the time of crystallization of the same.

Of course, this does not affect the PMBOK 4th. Edition or its application the test. It is a separate issue entirely. Nothing to do with obligafo change that will come from the edition of the PMBOK 5 ... Whoever has thought

apply and pay before the D-Day, of course, is not affected by any change.

What do you think?

PMP Exam Preparation Course Readings: Green Blog Project managemet

We spell out of World Cup football fan. I check the blog and see my passion for Jabulani, coupled with the cabal built in the last 30-odd days, have seriously affected its continuity and thoroughness. See also I spent some time between games to make up the publication of another way, taking a look and feel different coming to have the site.

Well, it's time to retake the lost line, to tie up loose ends. Of incorporating the tickets promised to begin to retrace the path of serial "Being PMP" . In short: so.

To begin without delay, given the end of the World as we said (by the way, health Spain!), I will post here something taken from the network of networks. This is the next article, very interesting, about the ecology in Project Management. I hope you enjoy it. As you read, start to rearrange the ideas for this blog go ahead normally. At least until Brazil 2014 ...

Green Project Management "New trends in project management?

Project managers have always been green, perhaps without their knowledge. By definition, project managers are constantly trying to reduce costs, increase value for our stakeholders and to protect scarce resources, which means they have taken on a green. In our minds, All processes used to achieve the objectives of the project management, have simply been fragmented and lack the environmental label.

Remember when project management was considered an "accidental profession?. With the help of organizations like the Project Management Institute (PMI ®) and the hard work of a lot of people, project managers are leading the changes necessary to continue the viability of the business, hence the project management today today is a high demand career option.

With the trend toward green business, we feel that the project manager is "accidentally green, and need not be. The same disciplines, standards and methods that have made the project manager an integral part of the business environment can be applied to green business environments, resulting in a structured approach to the green project management. Only see a bit of depth in the green project management and what we find is what is now a project manager.

If project management is more than save the environment why project management needs to have a label that qualifies as "green"?. If you love trees or skeptic, there is increasing "Green wave" of environmentalism. You can browse or just looking at it from the shore and this is not going away. The project managers see their projects through many lenses: financial, schedule, quality. Many experts and knowledge of the area believe that a project should also be seen through the lens of the project environmental team to increase their thinking long term and build on the green wave. It also makes sense purely from a professional standpoint. Only in the United States, 130 billion dollars have been set for energy-related projects as part of government stimulus spending.

But what are you looking at when you look through the lens environment?. How does that help define the green project management?. Looking through this lens, allows project managers to search and view opportunities within a project to save scarce resources and ask questions like: What part of processes such as design, plan, execute, close, and more there we can save energy?. We're not just talking about carbon emissions.
We also refer to human energy, but this can lead again as the carbon footprint. For example, it is more efficient to have virtual meetings Relocating to hold face to face meetings. With all the technological advances currently available, make a video is easy, economical and even fun, it's almost like being there in person, except that it saves time in transfer money and of course, consumption of fossil fuels.

If the possibilities permit, should be equipped to project team members with e-readers so that they can download all the documents and so would save paper?. Does not that make it more convenient to maintain and review the latest documents without having to make the effort to turn on the computer, saving manpower and other types?.

These are just a few things to consider for the project team especially if they work remotely (as seems to be the trend these days). However, there are many more reasons to be green to help the project managers.

We do not believe that the green project management is limited to managing environmental aspects of a project. We feel that is connected to the corporate social responsibility, triple bottom line, the four features of the Natural Step sustainability, and 4 Ls in English (Read, Learn, Linked and Lasting, Reducing, Learning, Link and Durability).

Green Project management is about people, planet and profitability, but also about: eliminating our contribution to the accumulation of toxic chemicals (DDT, PCB), addressing our contribution to the destruction of nature and eliminate our contribution to remove the ability of humans to meet their needs.

Finally, the green project management is: to reduce waste and make operations more efficiently, share lessons learned for organizational growth, connecting companies with environmental management plan and think long term. Doing this, of course it helps the planet, but this kind of thinking also have implications for the success of the project and organization.

That certainly sounds a lot responsibility placed on the shoulders of the project manager. But project managers already have the inherent skills and experience to carry out their projects with a green intent. Here's what to do, because it will affect positively the triple bottom line and help the project team to do the right things.

suspended World! Kabbalah

Following the last entry in this blog, I have received many mails asking (almost begging) to extend the cabal not to make the promised entry (see previous post) until after the game with Germany. I swear that I have influenced, the World Cup is very serious and has put me away from my professional phlegm.

So to not call the witches, suspend this blog while Argentina is in the World Cup. I will do everything in my power to see my selection of the world champion. Know you understand

How To Spot Fake Titleist Ap2 Irons

In tune with the times, let's talk about all the projects being implemented around the FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010. Scenarios, communication networks and roads, hotels, security. Dozens and dozens of projects whose success will ensure a first-order ecumenical event.

out there who say things are not quite right yet, a few days before the opening ceremony. Avenues closed, access inconclusive, some tweaks to the stadiums. Anyway, the monumentality of the work invites admiration. We, Project Managers, to think about the challenge that these objectives we are provoked.

Argentina National Team debut on Saturday June 12 to face Nigeria and opening two Group B World Cup. That game will be played at the legendary stadium of Ellis Park. Let's look at history data and the remodeling project.

Name: Ellis Park Stadium
City: Johannesburg
after remodeling Gross Capacity: 61,639 towns
Construction: Remodeling less
Date:

2009 Ellis Park Stadium is located in downtown Johannesburg, and has served as the setting for many famous events as the end of the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup between Brazil and the United States. Its capacity has been restored and now stands at close to 62,000 spectators, up 9% when taking into account the 57,000 places prior.

was built in 1928 as a rugby stadium. Later, it was demolished and rebuilt in 1982, again only to play the sport. His name is a tribute to JD Ellis, a Johannesburg city councilor who approved the use of a lot more than 5 acres to build a stadium.

This stage was the scene of the final of the Rugby World Cup 1995, when the combined local beat New Zealand and sparked a national holiday. Undoubtedly, no one will forget the images of Nelson Mandela hugging the trophy at that time. In addition, Ellis Park has experienced many unforgettable football matches: Bafana Bafana managed a 1-1 draw against Argentina in 1995 and a 0-0 draw against France in 2000, the then champion of the FIFA World Cup. Both games were friendlies.

Another memorable event in this stadium was the conclusion of the match between Nelson Mandela African XI and All-Star Eleven World, in honor of then outgoing President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela. Kalusha Bwalya, Mark Fish, Lucas Radebe and Tijani Babangida joined stars of the caliber of Rigoberto Song, Dunga, Luis Hernandez and Claudio Suarez to pay tribute to a great head of state.

Its new facilities include the media area, amenities in the area of \u200b\u200bequipment, exclusive VIP areas and easy access for the disabled. All that, next to the field of play and the big screen with the latest information, will make this stadium a South African pride during the World Cup.

Obituary: Rita Mulcahy (1960 - 2010)

Rita Mulcahy has died. Author one of the most widely used preparation for the PMP certification exam as compared to PMI - including dozens of books and study materials of Project Management -, died last Saturday May 15, due to a cancer that had been fighting for 5 years. Despite that, he worked with relish to close issues, designing products and further grow your business. .

was 50 years old, a husband (vice president of his company, RMC Project Management ) and two sons, aged 7 and 5 years of age. It is a great loss to the profession, that surprised by his devotion to hard work and enormous creativity. Read a book, watch a presentation, answer a question of simulation concocted by Rita, was a treat concurrent with the knowledge and pleasure.
.
The vast majority of PMP's we knew it and felt like a very familiar. We had brought with her a relationship to distance. His presence was almost bodily in our lives is that "Aunt Rita" (as we call my partner) was one of those people that seemed almost close relatives. During the time we prepare for the exam and then consulting for our classes, contact with his wisdom was (is) everyday.
.
No course that does not name. My students know Aunt Rita, their advice, their grievances "specious" their "PMIsmos." We laughed and sometimes we angry at their exam questions. All learning left even the most "tricky" (no more than the most tricky!).
:
Aunt Rita: you will be missed. ------------- RIP

copy, then the announcement of his death at the site of his company:

Rita Mulcahy, Founder of RMC Project Management and the project management best-selling author of all-time, Passed away on Saturday, May 15th 2010, from complications related to a five-year battle with Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC). She was 50. Rita leaves behind husband Tim Mulcahy, current Vice-President and Chief Legal Counsel for RMC, and two children, ages 7 and 5.

Rita was diagnosed with Stage 4 Inflammatory Breast Cancer in September of 2005, just days before two scheduled speaking appearances at PMI Global Congress in Toronto, Ontario. Given only months to live, Rita spent the next five years privately fighting her disease with a continuous regimen of both Western and Holistic treatments. During that time she continued to work, authoring five more best-selling books—including one with Fortune 100 leader Cisco Press—and delivering classes and keynote speeches across the globe. She also spent a great deal of time growing her business, and over the last five years watched RMC expand its training and product distribution to nearly 50 regions worldwide.

After her diagnosis, Rita worked feverishly to build RMC into one of the fastest-growing training organizations in the industry. Today, her thriving company is filled with some of the most sought-after experts in the fields of instructional design and delivery, learning development, and educational technology. Going forward, the Management Team at RMC will continue to leverage Rita's marketing-leading methodologies and learning techniques to develop more award-winning products, classes and e-learning courses in Project Management and numerous other related disciplines.

Even though Rita is no longer with us on a day-to-day basis, her unique and highly effective teaching style will live on through the hundreds of thousands of products and courses RMC delivers worldwide each year. In 2010, the Project Management industry lost its most passionate leader, advocate and friend. We will feel her loss every single day.

What Is The Bankrollmob

The Lord of Thorns

many times have we seen and used the cause-effect diagrams, fishbone or created by Ishikawa! But ... Who was this man and what contributed to the quality?
..

Kaoru Ishikawa was the first author who attempted to highlight the differences between the styles of Japanese and Western management. Its main hypothesis was that different cultural characteristics in both societies were instrumental in Japan's success in quality.
.
Ishikawa The main ideas found in his book " What is Total Quality Control?: Japanese mode." It indicates that the TCC (Total Quality Control) in Japan is characterized by the participation of everyone from top managers to lower employees.
.
put special attention on developing the use of statistical methods and practical access for industry. In 1943 developed the first diagram to advise a group of engineers from a Japanese industry. The Cause-Effect Diagram is used as a systematic tool for finding, selecting and documenting causes of variation in quality in production, and organize the relationship between them. Ishikawa

defined management philosophy that is behind the quality, the elements of quality systems and what he calls the "seven basic tools of quality management" , where it is considered a strong tilt statistical techniques. He was also responsible for developing the audit process used to determine whether a company is selected to receive the Deming Prize, the solution of problems based on computers.

Some of the key elements their philosophies are summarized below:

  • .- The quality begins with education and ends with education.
.- The first step in quality is to the needs of customers.
.- The ideal state of quality control occurs when the inspection is not required.
.- Remove the root cause and not the symptoms.
.- Quality control is the responsibility of all workers in all areas.
.- Do not confuse the means with objectives.
.- Put quality first and turn your view of the long-term profits.
.- The marketing is the input and output quality.
.- Senior management must not show anger when their subordinate facts presented to them.
.- 95% of a company's problems can be solved with simple tools for analysis and troubleshooting.
.- Those who do not have data scattered information (ie, variability) are false.

LinkedIn What is OPM3?

.

Our current survey asks if you know of PMI's OPM3 standard. What is this?

Organizations can measure the ability of their processes using Maturity Models. Based on the philosophy propounded by the most renowned, such as CMM or CMMI, Project Management Institute (PMI ®) has developed the Organizational Project Management Maturity Model (OPM3 ®), which helps, among other things, to improve the capacity of project management processes ensuring continuous alignment with business strategy.

OPM3 ® Model is a standard that covers all areas of management of projects of an organization. It is thus not aimed only at the individual projects, but also the programs and company's portfolio. Post these domains in relation to global best practices for each group of project management processes, the model stands as an abstraction context of the organization. Thus, the possession of certain capacities necessary to comply with Best Practices, says move through 4 levels of maturity given by OPM3 ®.

For an organization to know their level of organizational maturity in Project Management, shall evaluate the ability of their processes. Cost To Replace Engine Sensor On 2003 Yukon Xl

A question ... "Legitimate? (Yes, legitimate)

I read yesterday in a journal, which Cisco is finishing a new generation of routers that carry the bandwidth and the achievable speed Internet to unexpected heights. According to the note, the speed at Terabit / sec rise equation parameters almost unimaginable, with, for example, that the bandwidth for home use in Argentina, even under the current hardware - would be an average of 80M ( Today we are among 1 and 3, approximately).

Beyond the purely technical issues, the note graphic examples of the situation with "daily" so that any mortal to understand. Let's see what is brewing proposed speeds and bandwidth to share in such volume and magnitude, for example, (Attention. .. read right!): all documentation from the Library of U.S. Congress may be downloaded at ... 1 second! (Yes, you read correctly, one second). More: The note adds that the proposed conditions, entire population of China , adults, seniors, children, all ... Could generate a video while . Or that all, absolutely films made since the birth of film itself (todas!!) Could be downloaded over a period of ... 4 minutes!

These numbers are really staggering. There will be no limits to communication, access to knowledge, exchange ... In short, globalization will arrive at the famous peak.

Now my doubt, my legitimate question is: how is it that you can even think to do this without having project management processes professionalized to the fullest? Can anyone imginárselo?

The second part of my question is: how can it be then, that so many organizations balk at project management? We know it well. Work processes that are confused with bureaucracy, that the documentation does not develop, that lessons learned are not recorded or capitalized.

Technically, humanity has all the possibilities. Is seen. Internet and future attests. Is not it time that we are convinced that this is achieved only by working on excellence?
